Leap Day 2016, Make the Best of it
Leap Day is the catch-up day for the calendar and our movement around the sun. The true rotation of the earth around the sun takes 365 and 1/4 days. Back over 2,000 years ago, with the creation of the Julian calendar, which we recognize today, the extra day was added to even up the rotations.
Leap Day, in a Leap Year has allowed occurrences to happen that are outside the norm.
For example, aside from the obvious Leap Day sales, retailers will do anything to get people into the stores.
On Leap Day, it is considered proper for a woman to propose marriage to that bashful beau. There is a penalty if the beau rejects her, as he would have to buy a dress for the rejected woman. Can't you just see a bunch of dresses being bought for an enterprising woman just looking for a new wardrobe?
For people born on Feb 29, they get a choice as to when they want to celebrate their special day either in Feb or in March on non leap years.
By coincidence, Leap Year is also election year in the United States. Isn't it great that we get an extra day of campaign rhetoric?
I see it as another day in the month albeit a shorter span between paying the end of month bills. Enjoy your Leap Day.
