Ed's Chesprocott Region Blog: Sunday Aug 16 is National Roller Coaster Day

Sunday Aug 16 is National Roller Coaster Day

A 60 second thrill ride gives a Lifetime of Memories.

For those that can remember a ride on a wooden roller caster, there was that clackety-clack that could be heard as the cars started their first assent of the rides.  The ups and owns, quick twists and turns seemed to go on and on and yet the ride was no longer than a minute at best.

Here in Central Connecticut, we have 2 wooden roller coaster that are rated among the top 50 in the world.

The larger can be found at Lake Compounce in Bristol CT  which is also the oldest continuously operated amusement park in the US.

Here in Middlebury CT Quassy has the Wooden Warror also ranked in the top 50 in the US for wooden coasters.

The weather is going to be great this weekend.  Make a few memories and find a seat on a roller coaster.

Not a fan of roller coasters so I think I'll skip celebrating this holiday! I'll stick to the roller coaster ride of business.

Good Saturday morning Ed. Wonder who comes up with these national whatever days. Somebody must have an awful lot of time on their hands.

Good Saturday morning Ed.  The last time I rode a wooden roller coaster was in 2003 in Vegas.  My back hasn't been the same.  They say, never say never but I'm saying NEVER AGAIN

Hi Ed.  I was never a fan of roller coasters although Space Mountain was great.

Posted by Conrad Allen, Webster, Ma, Realtor (Re/Max Professional Associates) about 2 years ago

Can't say I'm a fan as I've always been afraid of them. I do remember the roller coaster at Savin Rock in West Haven by the shore! We would pass there all the time and  my broker would get mad at me for not wanting to take the ride. Nope, not me.

Good morning Ed. Love roller coasters, have been on some pretty crazy rides, never seem to get tired of them.

Make it a great weekend!

Not surprised, Ed, that there's a day to celebrate a roller coaster. But you won't ever see me on one of them!

I love roller coasters! We have a smaller miniature golf/rollercoaster park here called Castles and Coasters. The rides aren't that thrilling and it's WAY too hot to be outside all day this time of year. Good thing we are only a short 8 hour drive away from Six Flags in California!

I like roller coasters pretty well and have ridden quite a few, including wooden ones - there was a terrific one in Ocean City MD on the boardwalk many years ago. It's been a few years since I've been on one, and I WON'T be celebrating National Roller Coaster Day tomorrow

Enjoy your weekend!

I heard years ago that the 6 Flaggs outside of Chicago in Gurnee had the worlds largest wooden roller coaster.  Went on it once.  OMG, the banging around, the noise, everything about it told me that wooden roller coasters should be a thing of the past.

No. No thank you. No way.

I don't do roller coasters. I envy people who can enjoy them!

Ed like Sharon Tara above, I don't do roller coasters.  So I think I will pass on this National Day :)

Hi Ed...I will not be celebrating National Roller Coaster Day on a roller coaster. I cannot even watch anyone I know on one. They scare the heck out of me. On the other hand I have a daughter that is crazy about them and she's no kid. She is getting close to 50 but boy does she have fun at Busch Gardens.

Ed ah the good old days, I loved to go on Roller Coaster Rides and I can recall being at both when I was a bit younger.....now I would be more concerned about how safe are these old rickety Roller Coaster Rides:)), Endre

Used to like some rides but ever was a fan of the roller coaster.  Best left to the young!

Hi Ed Silva , I remember growing up with the wooden coasters, now they are all high tech.  Many people from here go the Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio.  I believe they have 17 coasters.  The blue streak is a wooden coaster, which I have been on, but I chickened out on all of the new metal ones, that go twice as fast and twice as high, upside down and backwards with loops and thrills.  I would go down, but my food would come up!

Ed - I wonder how many real wood roller coasters are still in operation.  I remember one a the New Jersey shore.

Hi Ed, happy National Roller Coaster Day. My life in Real Estate seems like a roller coaster fairly often. Enjoy your Sunday.

We are actually heading to Carowinds tomorrow to enjoy a few Coasters :-) Celebrating the holiday a day late, but will still enjoy the thrills!  Happy National Roller Coaster Day!

You are lucky to have rollar coasters near you. I love them. I would take a ride today to celebrate, but I don't have that opportunity.

There really is a day for everything. LOL.

Good morning Ed, my first, last and only wooden roller coaster experience was at Coney Island in NY, I was scared!! Never will I get on one again.

We rode the Hurler at Carowinds yesterday, and snapped a picture in honor of your blog post......

Amy Hahn   roller coasters can be fun. Hopefully you didn't look like this when you came off.  The photo came from a site that was promoting the worlds' largest roller coaster some place in Ohio
