Veteran’s Day November 11, 2016 A Day of Remembrance

Veteran’s Day   November 11, 2016  A Day of Remembrance

Today, in the United States, is Veteran’s Day. It’s a day to remember all Veteran’s that have served their country in a time of war. Originally it was known as Armistice Day, which was the day the articles ending World War I were signed, at the 11th hour of the 11 Day of the 11 month.

 Veteran’s Day November 11, 2016 A Day of Remembrance

Many people that still remember this will pause at 11:00 AM today to remember all veteran’s living or deceased that fought for their country. I will make the time as will, not only for all Veterans but also for an uncle of, mine that was born on 11/11/11 and also served our country proudly as a member of the 4th Armored Div in World War II. He was with General Patton through the European campaign and survived the Battle of the Bulge.  He would have been 98 today and his brother, my 96 year old Dad misses him a great deal.

In hearing some of his stories as a kid, it was a frightful time, as is all conflicts. I know the times of stress I felt as a military member while just in training and it was nothing compared to the 24/7 stress a soldier feels when in combat of on a combat area.

In Minnesota, there is also a blizzard storm named for that day in history because it happened on Nov. 11th. My mother used to talk about the Armistice Day Blizzard. Since they changed the name, I don't know if people know what it means anymore.

Ed loved this post and indeed there is no comparison to training than being in combat and you and I can be grateful that we did not need to participate in that stressful situation that many of our brothers in arms had to. Thank you for your service as well as your family's  RLTW, Endre

I am a day late Ed Silva but this is a touching post. I remember when I was a kid the day was called Armistice Day.

Like you, Ed, I have family members who have served.  Being brought up in that environment, I have always had such great appreciation for those who defend our freedoms and protect us.
